Nordics: Day 5 | Fjords Ferry

Good morning from way too early (in my opinion)!!

The hotel we were staying at had claimed to have the “best buffet breakfast in Norway” so we had to wake up early to make sure we could enjoy it for at least a little.

Unfortunately, I am not much of a breakfast person, so I wasn’t able to enjoy as much as I wished. But there was almost everything you could think of for breakfast available.

At around 8:30, we headed off to the port to meet the ferry. It was ~15-20 minute walk, and maybe a bit longer with our suitcases. Although I was a little nervous about timing, we did arrive with plenty of time to check in.

We received our rooms, but couldn’t drop out bags in the room quite yet, so put our bags in the storage room for later. We then began to explore the ship. It was a pretty small ferry, but did have two hot tubs on the back of the boat which were fun.

We landed in this area that was outside but covered and heated and set up shop. It was a great location! We got some coffees and then the boat was leaving shore and we were beginning our journey through the fjords.

We hung out for a bit and then Carly pulled out yatzee and we began to play. This kept us entertained for while. After the game had completed we did some laps around the deck and decided to move fully outside as the heaters were getting a bit too warm. We walked, sat, and hung out for a couple more hours.

Then the ship was going to dock in a new city which was the longest stop (~1.5 hour).  We decided we were going to de-board to explore this town. We lined up, de-boarded by scanning our badges and exploring town. We didn’t have much time and we wanted to hit the grocery store to get a couple more snacks for the remainder of the ferry. This is what we did, we walked a bit, popped into a store and it was about time to head back.

Once we got back on, we went back up to our seats and then a while after that, we decided to take a dip into the hot tub, so we all went and changed. After changing we hopped into the hot tub. We hung-out for a while in here, especially Mac, my mom, and myself. Afterwards, we showered and headed to the deck. It was now around 4pm, so we headed to the bar.

We got some ciders/beers and chatted on the back deck for a while with people making laps around the boat every once in a while. I think it was about this time we realized that cruises weren’t really for us.

We chilled on the back deck for a long while until it was finally time for our dinner reservation. At this moment, the boat was pretty rocky and most of us honestly were feeling pretty sea sick which was a bummer.

We still headed to dinner which was a pre-set menu with a couple of options for an app, main, and dessert. It was actually good food! We chatted at dinner for a while and then headed back upstairs to our first spot that was inside/outside. We played some cards (euchre) for a long while before people slowly started making their way to bed. The night time views of the fjords were so pretty so we took in the night air for a while longer before heading to our room.

Goodnight!
