Day 6: Delicious Food – Let’s Cook

Good morning! The sun is shining, so let’s go have some fun.

Today was another day in Chang Mai we had the entire morning to adventure some more and experience the city. We had one more “must see temple” that we wanted to visit and check off the list.

This was the Wat Prathat Doi Suthep, which was a slight hike from the city. We had seen all of these red vehicles which had open trailers that people would ride and take different places around and outside the city. As we were walking out of the hotel we noticed one on the side of the road and decided this was our moment to try it out and take it up the mountain to Wat Prathat Doi Suthep.

We piled in and headed on our way. It was roughly a 20/30 minute drive from our hotel. When we arrived we noticed a ton of steps that would be our next part of this journey. We climbed up them and it lead us to a beautiful temple. It was right in the middle of the jungle.

We took our shoes off and headed on our journey around and in the temple. It was beautiful, we were surrounded by gold, trees, and lovely people. We took in each and every view. There was one main temple in the middle with little sculptures and buildings surrounding. Once we felt at peace that we had experience all there was to experience we looked for a hike nearby, as we were in the jungle.

We checked the internet, AllTrails and asked others but we were unsuccessful on this search for a hike nearby. We did find one, but it lead us approximately 10 steps down a road and then it just ended, as we were in a country we were unfamiliar with we decided this would not be an ideal to carve our own path.

We decided to grab a Grab and head back down to the city. Once we got back to the city we walked by the three Kings Monument on our journey to Old Town Chang Mai. Once we got to Old Town, we grabbed amazing smoothie bowls and continued on our journey back to the hotel as we had a big night of cooking ahead of us.

Our cooking journey began, by the company picking us up from the hotel. We then went to the market to grab fresh ingredients for cooking. We also learned a bit about the different native plants as well as how different produce is used to cook in Thailand. It was very interesting to learn about as well as cool that we were able to grab fresh market items for cooking that night.

Once we left the market we headed back to the place we would be cooking. It was beautiful, we entered through a garden and saw their pet turtle – it was awesome. We also got to take a tour through the garden and try different types of fruits and vegetables, everyone was very sweet. After the little tour, we all decided on the meals we would be cooking.

After that our official cooking journey began.  They gave us the direct portions that we woukd be cooking for the meal we choose. We made a Curry, Fried Noodles/Rice, as well as dessert – we were all stuffed by the end. I think this was my favorite part of the entire trip. We were able to fully immerse in the culture with cooking as well as meet awesome people along the journey.

After the cooking class, we headed back to the hotel for our last night with Jake & Etty before they went on to travel the rest of the world. I believe their next stop was Singapore. We were exhausted from our day, we ended up just grabbing drinks at the hotel before heading up and heading to bed.

Goodnight!
