Day 1: Into the Unknown (Monteverde)

We had great ambitions to wake up early around 6:30AM and leave around 7AM for one of our big days of driving. We were heading from San Jose to Monteverde.

I say we had great ambitions because as soon as we woke up Grace and I immediately feel back asleep for about another hour. Once the first alarm went off Zoe was up and ready to go. She opened the blinds, got dressed, and even had breakfast. During this time, Grace and I were going back and forth with 10 more minutes… okay another 5.. until Zoe had officially got back and Grace & I had to jump up to get ready.

Once we got dressed we headed to breakfast, had some coffee, did the mini-games, and hung out for a bit. 30 minutes later we checked out and headed to Monteverde.

Our drive was very entertaining as we had a couple wrong turns, a couple stops, and lot of funny interactions. The entire drive was so scenic and the roads were not nearly as bad as we were expecting.

About 2 hours into our 4 hour drive we decided to stop to grab some snacks from the super market. This was our first stop of the journey. We grabbed a couple bags of chips as well as fruit candies and we thought we had butter cookies. Once we got back into the car we decided to try everything, but we could not find the butter cookies which is what we were all most excited for. Such a bummer! The other snacks tho were great!

Our second stop of the road trip was the most memorable. The Gas Station. Grade whipped us into the gas station full speed ahead straight over a speed bump and man did we fly in our seats. Then we drove up to the gas pump and the gas man started walking towards us to help fill up. He was trying to tell us something, but we couldn’t quite understand, so Grace just shouted, “We’re American!” and everyone including the gas man dies in laughter. The man was simply trying to tell us the gas tank was on the other side of the car.  We then adjusted our side of the car for the pump, and so the man could help us he then asked us to pop the gas tank, but we kept popping the hood instead. Laughter was concoctions for a while until we were able to figure it all out.  All good times and lots of laughs!

After our time at the gas station, we continued on our way to Monteverde. Although the reservations were sold out for the Cloud Reserve, we decided to give it a shot anyway. We drove the parking lot and they let us in. We continued our journey through a shuttle bus to the entrance and started our walk around the Forrest.

We walked around for a couple hours across a hanging bridge through the Forrest with birds. It was very pretty and a unique environment to be a part of.

On our way out we were starving and so excited to get back to the car to get some snacks. We down some snacks and drove to dinner.

We ended up heading to town to get to the restaurant. Tree House was a fun little restaurant and our waiter was awesome. We got the ceviche and fajitas which were all to die for! Dinner was overall a great time. After dinner he brought us some Costa Rican shots and we went on our merry way to gather some food from the Super Market before going to the Sunset.

We headed to watch the sunset at Mirador San Luis. It was absolutely stunning.

Once the sunset was finished we made our way to the Airbnb , but man was it hard to find. After 15 minutes of looking and another 10 of finding another area we arrived at the Tree House.

We hung out and chilled outside for about an hour before heading in to go to bed!

Buenas Noches!
