Day 5: Spanish Castle & More

Today we woke up around 10:00am, so we could head to Martina’s house for breakfast around 10:30am. We had a great breakfast with toast, coffee, and I had an amazing omelette. There was also a ton of fruit and juices which was amazing! Once we finished breakfast we headed on our way to a castle in San Lorenzo de El Escorial.

The castle was around an hour drive from their house and we had to split into two cars to all make it there. The castle was MASSIVE which we didn’t really notice until we went in and began to walk around. We probably got to see at least 20 different rooms all uniquely designed which made it very fun to walk around. Although, the coolest room of all was we got to see where all the Kings of Spain are buried (sadly we were unable to take a picture in that room, but if you ever get a chance to go you must.

After finishing walking through the castle we made our way back to the city of Madrid to explore. We started at the Royal Post Office and made our way through the city seeing the Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Cibeles, La Paz, and some very fun shops. The Plaza Mayor is a beautiful area of the city with buildings surrounding you it feels as though you are almost in a movie. There were people feeding the birds and there was a lot of activities happening overall. Plaza de Cibeles is in the center of a large roundabout in Madrid, so we looked at it from a distance before contining on our way.

We headed to the grocery store to try and find snacks, a couple times throughout the day, the main one we were searching for are these AMAZING Milka cookies. Yet, they are nearly impossible to find. After checking ~5 stores, we stopped into a local bodgea type shop and there they were. Huge win of the day.

After a full day of exploring we headed back to Martina’s house just in time to watch the Futbol game. Us kids watched the game on the couch and caught up while the parents “assisted” Martina’s dad in making the dinner. I say “assisted” because it was 99% just Martina’s dad while the rest just chatted. We had burgers and they were great!!

After watching Spain win, eating a delicious dinner and chatting with everyone for hours we all headed to bed for another adventure tomorrow.

Goodnight!
