Day 2: To Patagonia & Beyond

Today our plan was to wake up early (around 8:30) to explore the city, however, we were exhausted from the day before so ended up waking up around 9:30. Once awake we packed up our room, put our luggage in the storage room, and went on our merry way to find a nearby cafe to grab coffee and hangout.

We walked around for a good 10ish minutes before finding ourselves at a cute little rooftop cafe. We ordered a delicious breakfast – Katherine got the avocado toast, Ashley a yogurt bowl, and myself a Caprese Bagel. All top notch food (highly recommend!).

Once we finished up our food, tea, and coffee we headed back to the Hostel to grab our bags before getting a Taxi to the Airport. This flight was going to take us from Buenos Aires to El Calafate (I.e the start of our journey in Patagonia).

The Taxi drive was pretty quick (just about 20ish minutes) before we arrived at the Airport. Katherine & I checked our bags and then the three of us all went through security to headed towards our gate. Went to the gate, dropped some stuff and went to find a quick snack before boarding our flight. We had a to take a shuttle from the gate to our plane which was fairly quick (5ish mins). We then loaded onto the flight and got ready for take-off. Our flight was 3 hours and I, sadly, left my flight pillow in my checked bag so was planning on watching some quick tv shows during the flight. Turns out, my AirPods were dead as well so ended up trying to sleep and writing a bit of this during the flight instead.

The next part of the trip was something we were all very very excited for, but had no clue what all to expect. Looking out the plane window was incredible. It was crystal blue water with beautiful mountains outlining the sky.

Once we landed, we had a car waiting for us to take us to our hotel. Since we landed around 6pm, we wanted to quickly check-in before exploring the city. We checked-in & brought our bags up to our rooms before venturing out for the night.

We walked through town before popping our heads in to a restaurant recommended to us. They stated they had no reservations, but Katherine was able to sweet-talk her way into getting us a later table around 8:30pm. Since it was only 7pm at the time, we decided to do a little exploring. We walked down to the water on a cute little board walk, found a little workout area where Ashley and I did some quick biceps curls before continuing on. Once we got to the viewpoint (that honestly was lot that cool), we turned around to grab a quick appetizer at an amazing little bakery.

The empanadas were truly unreal and the cookies were even better (we ended up going back for 2nds). We walked and talked well we ate our food before walking around the block and heading back to the restaurant for dinner.

The inside & outside of this restaurant were adorable and the food was fantastic. Katherine & I ordered Ribeyes (which was cooked to perfection) and Ashley ordered Gnocchi (which was to die for).

After dinner we decided to pop our heads into Patagonia cervecería. I asked the waitress for her favorite beer (in Spanish – go soph) and went with whatever she said, so I honestly have no clue which one it was lol, but it was amazing. We sat, drank, and chatted for a while before realizing it was way past our bed time and time to head back to the hotel for some zzzz’s.

It was a great first day in Patagonia and could not be more excited for the days to come.

Buenos Noches!
