Day 3: Exploring another area of Bangkok

Today was another day filled with walking, markets, food, and views. We woke up and had breakfast at the hotel. My breakfast included fruit, Potatoes, and cereal (lol I’m not really a breakfast person). I also enjoyed a delicious cup of coffee before we headed out the door for the day.

Today’s plan was similar to yesterday’s as our main goal was to see as much of the city as possible. This, of course, meant we were walking around the city, yet again. I think we were a bit more accustomed to the weather as it was not nearly as hot / I didn’t feel like I was going to pass out every 5 minutes which was a huge win for the day. We left the hotel around 10am and put in all the key highlights we wanted to see in google maps to map out the best route to see everything. The main sites we saw, some planned others were not are listed below;

1. The Grand Palace (see as many temples on the way as possible)

2. Wat Arun

3. Markets

4. China Town

5. Silom Road (the financial district)

6. Rooftop Bar

All of these items were accomplished and more, which made the day a great success.

Our first stop as you can see above was to go to the Grand Palace. This is a must see spot for anyone visiting Bangkok. It is a huge gorgeous site with many temples and an unreal garden area. One item to remember is in order to go into places such as this, you just have your shoulders as well as knees fully covered. Once we got our tickets and entered the palace we were absolutely amazed. The amount of gold and greenery that surrounded us was stunning.

We walked around the area for an hour or so trying to catch every area. Again, it was still a very hot day so we grabbed some water on our way out before heading to the next site – Wat Arun.

In order to go over and see this temple site, we had to hop on a boat across a little canal. It was about a 8 minute boat ride, which was fairly fun (except for Etty who got a little sea sick). Once we arrived to entered in and walked around and up the template and yards for a while before continuing our journey to the next stop.

We took the boat back over the canal and headed towards the financial district of Bangkok. On the way, however, we made a couple of stops. The first stop was to admire a local flower maker, the second to walk through a long alley way market, and the third walk through China Town. Each of these places were a blast to see and we would not have found if we hadn’t been walking to explore the city.

On our way we found this amazing little store with a ton of candy & snacks. The store music was very unique, but amazing.

Once we made if to the financial district our sole goal was to find a rooftop bar. This turned out to be easier than expected, but harder than expected to get in. We looked up a couple of spots and after a few attempts found our way to one. Here we ordered a couple of apps as well as a couple of drinks to enjoy as we looked over the city and watched the sunset.

After grabbing snacks/dinner/drinks, we decided to stop in one last bar before leaving the area. Carly, Jake, I all split a tower of Chang Beer before heading on our lovely way to find a taxi to take us home.

We got in the taxi and on the way home saw a fun night market occurring, we placed a pin on the spot as we drove by as we new this may be the place to come back to later.

Once we arrived at the hotel, we did decide to take the mile journey to the night market to see what was poppin’. It seemed to be a little carnival, so we walked through before heading back to the hotel to get some sleep for our travels to Chang Mai the next day.

Goodnight!
