Day 5: The greatest adventure.
We woke up a bit earlier than the other days, not only from excitement but also because we had to meet our guide at 8am at the base of L’Aiguille du Midi. Once we were up, dressed, and head lunch packed we were off on our .8-mile hike to the base of the lift.
When we arrived we looked for our man, John, at the base to load us up with the required gear (crampons, avalanche gear, and harness). Once we all had our own gear we got on the L’Aiguille du Midi to take us up to the top of the mountain.

Once we arrived at the top, we got our gear on and began to descend to our starting location. The hike down was a bit scary and nerve-racking, as we were on a ridge with a dropoff on both sides. It went well, and we made it safely to the starting point, where we swapped our crampons for skis.

Once we took out the first couple of turns, our guide was able to pick what path to move forward with. We were experienced enough, we took us on a little more than a leisure run which was a blast.
He was an amazing guide and knew when to stop us to snag some pictures. It was truly a great experience. We got to see and ski glaciers, got some experience avoiding crevasses, and got to eat lunch staring at the beautiful mountain around us.
We spent most of the run, taking in all the views and having ourselves a time.

Once we arrived at the base, we thought our journey was through, however, it was solely the calm before the storm. It was at this moment that we realized we had to climb some 500 stairs with our skis and ski boots to make it to the base of the gondola to take us the rest of the way.
This in my opinion was the hardest part of the day and I was incredibly thankful when it was all over!

Once, we finished the traitorous steps back up, we headed in to grab a drink. Our guide told us to get some beers and Sprite, so we could make a traditional drink. As bad as it sounds, it was actually pretty good. Once they were finished we headed on the train back to the town.
Once we got back, we showered, changed, and headed into the city to find some drinks, dinner, and a little dessert.

After the wine, beers, and fancy cocktails, we went back to the Airbnb to get some rest for our next full day of skiing.
Goodnight 🙂
