When in Barcelona

Day 22

We got to Barcelona around 2pm, so we had just around 24 hours in the city. We started by walking from the train station to our Airbnb to check-in. After checking-in we felt gross from traveling, so we quickly showered and got ready for the day.

Once we were ready we headed out and got some smoothies and donuts for lunch. We took them to-go and headed to the la familia sagrada (the biggest church). I always heard people talking about how large and massive the church was, but I didn’t realize how large it was until we were standing right in front of it. Man is this thing HUGE. It’s totally crazy. So, after taking in the sight for a while we mapped out where else we wanted to go for the day.

We decided that our next stop would be the plaza Catalunya. This is a pretty plaza with two massive fountains, which is cool. Then we tried to go to the large Barcelona market, but forgot it was a national holiday and that it was closed. Luckily, we had the morning the next day, so we decided that we would come back for breakfast the next day.

After the failed market experience we simply just walked around Barcelona for around an hour, before meeting up with Ashley’s friend for dinner. We went to le nacional which is a a very pretty building with lots of restaurants combined on the inside. We sat down at the busiest one and again ordered a couple sets of tapas for the three of us for dinner. We also, of course, got Tinto de Verano to drink (they are literally SO GOOD – highly recommend). We had a pleasant dinner all chatting and hanging out.

Once we were finished we went to this super fun Dow Jones bar. All the drinks at the bar were like stocks, so they would increase or decrease in price depending on demand and every once in a while the entire ‘market’ would crash and drinks would be super cheap. It was amazing, so we hung out for while before heading off back to our place and to our Airbnb.

Overall, our 24-hours in Barcelona was a blast and experienced way more than we had expected too.

Day 23

Travel day! We woke up early and went to the street market that was closed the day before because it was a national holiday in Spain. We walked around a little and got some fresh juice & empanadas for breakfast. It was a blast to walk around and see all of the fresh food and fun little stands. We spent around an hour or so walking around the market before we had to head off to the bus stop for another travel day! Today we are heading to Grindelwald, Switzerland.
